Bernd Oliver Fröhlich - Tenor |
| curriculum vitae | Born in Innsbruck, Bernd Oliver Fröhlich began his musical career as a Jazz saxophone player before he went on to study voice and voice pedagogy at Vienna Music University and in Princeton (USA). Since 1997 he has been working as a freelance singer and is highly in demand on both the opera and the operetta stage as well as on the concert podium. His repertoire stretches from roles like Duke Zedlau in "Wiener Blut" or Stanislaus in "Der Vogelhändler" to baroque opera characters (Colin in "Le devin du village"). He has performed Macheath ("The three penny opera") just as convincing as a number of main roles in contemporary operas, e.g. those of Austrian composers HK Gruber ("Gloria von Jaxtberg") and Jury Everhartz ("Der automatische Teufel", "Der Kommissar", "Das Krokodil"). The tenor has proven his special skills as a comedian on a number of occasions: as Leopold ("Im weissen Rössl"), in various Mozart roles (Don Basilio, Monostatos, Bastien) and as witch ("Hänsel und Gretel"). Bernd Oliver Fröhlich also maintains a busy schedule of concert appearances, focusing mainly on Early Music. He has been working under the bâton of renowned conductors like Jordi Savall, Philippe Herreweghe, Paul van Nevel or René Clemencic. The tenor is performing regularly at numerous festivals in that field all over Europe, either as a soloist or a member of the Capella Reial de Catalunya, the Huelgas Ensemble, the Clemencic Consort or the Ensemble Nova. |
